I will be teaching ENGL214 – Creative Writing at Alberta College of Art + Design this coming January / February as a modified block week class.
This course will provide students with guidance and constructive aid in the production of their own creative literary work. While a variety of instructional methods will be employed, such as lectures, discussions, directed written assignments, and the study of literary exemplars, ENGL.214 is primarily a workshop course. Students will be expected to work in multiple genres. Please note that this is not a course in commercial writing.
This course is open to current ACAD students, or students from any other Alberta Post-Secondary Institution FOR CREDIT (please check with your home institution for transfer credit details; Students from other institutions may take this course for transfer credit, providing they have a confirmation letter from their home institution and submit a copy of their transcripts).
Cost $487.99 (Canadian citizens – international fees apply).
Please contact CONTINUING EDUCATION at ACAD for registration information and details.
This course runs January 3 – 7 (Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat), 12:30 pm to 4:40 pm plus January 14, 21, 28 + February 4 (Saturdays), 12:30 pm – 4:40 pm.
Honoured to have been nominated for the Alberta Foundation for the Arts 25 Influential artists award by my colleague Kit Dobson (and by another, anonymous, member of Calgary’s literary community) — and to have in turn nominated Marni Strome for the same award. Recipients will be announced this coming weekend as part of Alberta Culture Days…

Calgary’s metro takes an interest in The Calgary Renaissance (forthcoming from Chaudiere Books)
Bid to own the helmet I designed for Canadian National Luge team athlete Arianne Jones & help raise funds for Helmets for Heroes!
One year ago Helmets for Heroes partnered with the Canadian Luge Team to bring 7 projects to life. Athletes were paired with local Calgary artists and youth suffering traumatic brain injuries to create unique pieces of art that were worn during the 2015-16 World Cup season.
After protecting the heads of National Team athletes – while creating awareness for concussion prevention and helmet safety – it’s now time to auction of these incredible works of art.
100% of proceeds from the sale of the helmets will go to Creative Impact Health Foundation to support their initiatives and fund future Helmets for Heroes projects.
I’ve cast the first volume of my VEXATIONS project in to a short animated film. VEXATIONS decomposes the score of Erik Satie’s masterpiece through repeated photocopy degeneration. Each volume uses a different photocopier to degenerate Satie’s score

The first of a projected 10 volumes, VEXATIONS decomposes the score of Erik Satie’s masterpiece through repeated photocopy degeneration. Beaulieu’s VEXATIONS moves writing towards “furniture music.”
Each volume uses a different photocopier to degenerate Satie’s score – with startlingly unique results. Taken as a 10-book suite, the completed project will present 840 variations (84 variations per book over 10 books)

Pour se jouer 840 fois de suite ce motif,
il sera bon de se préparer au préalable,
et dans le plus grand silence, par des immobilités sérieuses

it would be advisable to prepare oneself beforehand,
and in the deepest silence, by serious immobilities”)
